We used to sit around in a circle just as kids
Playing bubblegum, bubblegum, in a dish
We were freshly out of sixth grade
Still going to church
Nobody had died, and no one would for sure

But we grew up, now Johnny does cocaine
Sarah runs a bar, and Jeff forgot his name
Amy sells herself on the edge of 3rd and Main
As for me and you, oh, we′ve slowly parted ways

We used to drive around and talk about the Lord
Sex before a spouse and what we could explore
We were stupid at 18, thought we kinda knew our way
And we swore to God that we would never change

What the hell happened to all of my friends?
Well, we grew up, now Johnny lost a kid
Sarah met a man, and Jeff no longer lives
Amy has a warrant, I think this is her fifth
As for me and you, our relationship has dimmed

We used to look at jobs, say we'd work in the same place
Talk about the money that we′d eventually make
We'd all become successful, all it took was willful heart
We were strong and educated, 22, and smart

People are dying, and I still can't get a grip
But we grew up, now Johnny′s on some meds
Sarah has some wrinkles, and we′ve since buried Jeff
Amy's still in jail, the last time that I checked
