When I was young I prayed to God
I cannot say it helped a lot
Maybe the love came from one side
Goodbye to my sweet lord
I felt my life was way too short
To wait for voices from behind


Never on my knees again
An independant plan
Gave me happiness and pain
I learned of life and death
A million tears I shed
What did my life mean for God′s sake
It can take a long time before things break

As I grew older, family and friends
With their advice and their comments
Told me they were at my side
But none of them walked in my shoes
I had enough of different views
No more voices from behind


It was time and it was tough
Now that I was strong enough
There was a decision for me to make
I really had to make my way
So it meant they could not stay
To live a life no longer fake
It can take a long long time
