When I was just a kid
I wished that I could be permanent
And my bones would shake
At the thought of change

Afraid to shut my eyes
Awake with the lights on
I wished everything could remain
In one place
And I′m not sure if other kids ever did the same

I would stare into the mirror at my face
And at the risk of sounding vain
I'd imagine what I′d look like with hair turned gray
With no brighter days
With wrinkled skin
Eyes sunken in


And I remember hearing fables
About a fountain to make us ageless
A phony sense of security and confidence

We are not permanent

And for a while I didn't give a shit
And I wasn't scared of anything
Yeah, being naive sure had its benefits
Realities that I couldn′t deal with
I did my best to keep separate
Anything but actual acknowledgement
