Vertical London (New Year’s Day)
- Early birds and planes in Loughborough Junction
- I am not sure which tube station is the furthest below sea level, but I am visiting quite a few
- Under the Thames with cyclists, joggers and echoes in the Greenwich Foot Tunnel
- Popping up at Island Gardens
- The DLR is quite possibly the best sounding London train, electromagnetically speaking
- Celebrating a squeaky transport barrier
- Walking through Soho with tourists and delivery guys
- Arriving in Bloomsbury: yes I heard my first 'Happy New Year'
- An inaugural trip to Kilburn, which I have always wanted to visit because Doreen Massey lived here
- Overground then all uphill to Hampstead, a whispered neighbourhood of private security signs
- Daydream interlude (eating a not very nice lunch)
- Dramatic build-up to when I dipped into the shopping centre to find a man playing piano outside Aldi
- Why did I decide to go all the way across town to Crystal Palace park?
- I should never have doubted coming to Crystal Palace, a wonderland of crows and dinosaurs
- It was New Year's Day after all, and yes someone really was playing this at the overground station
- I don't think you can hear but people largely discussed dogs all the way back to central London
- A very long queue for the London Eye which is quite shit, and has awful commentary, although the view to be fair is beautiful
- Dramatic drummers on the street as I ran due to being late for my Shard viewing platform booking
- Taking two lifts inside the (rather divisive) Shard
- ‘Hello everyone and welcome to the View’, a sort of cupboard / bar, with London stretched out and twinkling below
- Said cupboard / bar is closing soon but let's have a cocktail still
- Tipsy aboard a Thameslink chariot home on this first day of 2026
More than a week of Sundays (Compilation)
Midsummer, London
- Sunrise on the 35 bus to Clapham Junction
- Amid waterbirds and joggers, Staines-upon-Thames
- Roadworks in Shepperton
- One piece of cake (a banana cake), and remembered excavations
- I met a dog in Hampton who lived on a boat near a gravel recycling plant
- The bins being emptied somewhere near Twickenham
- Transit interlude (vibrations obscuring conversations)
- A strangely located cafe, echoes of St Paul's and a drain that drew breath as I journeyed into Blackfriars
- Lunchtime for the office crowd, I like the sound of swan rescue
- Crossing the river: I am getting hungry and lots of people are talking about food. Also Jesus loves me
- Transit interlude (the Lewisham station piano)
- A rather wistful stop for noodles (and why is someone singing in this food court anyway?)
- Trickling Thoughts
- Walking down to the Thames at Woolwich I banged some guard rails; thought about a recording of another station piano
- Trying to find the river at Slade Green; Did that train go to Dartford?
- It has been the longest of days and I am going home
