Throwin' Horseshoes at the Moon Songtext
von Tom Russell & Iris DeMent

Throwin' Horseshoes at the Moon Songtext

My father was a gambler, he threw ol′ horseshoes at the moon
He won a million dollars, he lost a million too
They repossessed the house, they towed the Cadillac
My daddy, he just smiled and said, "One day I'll win it back"
My daddy bought that Cadillac off a Detroit motor line
Then he drove it through his hometown, to prove he hit his prime
With hundred dollars bills in a Saint Chris money clip
And four kids starin′ proudly from that big ol' sinkin' ship
Throwin′ horseshoes at the moon

Boys, it′s mighty risky odds, sometimes you hook the Milky Way
Or the outstretched hands of God
But mostly they just fall into a dark and dusty hole
And the sound of fallin' horseshoes, it pulls upon your soul
Throwin′ horseshoes at the moon

My daddy was a gambler, but he had an honest heart
He never did complain, when the whole thing fell apart
He just swam that sea of alcohol 'til he hit the other side
How can you be a loser if you never lose your pride?
Throwin′ horseshoes at the moon

Boys, it's mighty risky odds, sometimes you hook the Milky Way
Or the outstretched hands of God
But mostly they just fall into a dark and dusty hole
And the sound of fallin′ horseshoes, it pulls upon the soul
Throwin' horseshoes at the moon
Throwin' horseshoes at the moon
