Copenhagen Songtext

Copenhagen Songtext

I was sat by the docks watching ships in the breeze
When I answered the call
And the intake of breath at the end of the line
Left a need to say nothing at all
Well it still surprises me, just how quietly
Life could be taken that day
With no cannon salute and no high-speed pursuit
Just a vessel that drifted away
Away from our view and into a new horizon
A new horizon

Some days you get older by more than just hours
And the years flew away in Copenhagen town
In Copenhagen town

I thought back to the day when you stole us away
To the woods by the light of the moon
We were barrelling glee my two brothers and me
In our tiny pyjamas and shoes
Well your sense of adventure it never did fade
Still out biking ′til seventy two
So whenever there's talk of how life should be lived
I′ll be telling them stories of you
Those stories of you
Such wonderful stories of you

Some days you get older by more than just hours
And the years flew away in Copenhagen town
Yeah I think a part of me stayed
On that bank among all the wild flowers
In Copenhagen town

Now I can't help but smile
When I think of that song you'd sing
Oh what a gift that your eccentricity
Should be threaded through everything
So you′ll never be gone
You still light up the village green
And it means all the more that you′d come through a war
And you still kept the faith after all that you'd seen

Some days you get older by more than just hours
And the years flew away in Copenhagen town
Yeah I think a part of me stayed
On that bank among all the wild flowers
Yeah I think a part of me stayed
On that bank among all the wild flowers
In Copenhagen town
